Resting in Advent Peace
Another week of Advent is coming to a close! Do you feel the anticipation building? The day we celebrate our Savior’s birth is fast approaching. I’ve loved spending this Advent season with you! I pray that our understanding of the peace that Jesus brought with him will drive us to worship our merciful, wonderful God. What an amazing gift we’ve been given. Take some time to rest in the beautiful Scripture we’ve studied over this last week. Let the songs and the prayer below point you to our heavenly Father. Rest in the peace our souls have with God because of the glorious birth, life and death of our Savior.
Rest in His Word
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Romans 5:1-2
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
“Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted” Hebrews 12:1-3
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16

It is Well With My Soul performed by Audrey Assad
A Prayer To Encourage
Father, words fail when I try to express gratitude for the peace you have given me through your Son, Jesus Christ. What an amazing, incredible, unbelievable gift you brought to the world.
In my sin, I rebelled against you, the perfect, Holy God. This sin demanded a debt I could never repay. And yet, in love you sent your only Son to rescue me. He lived the perfect life I could never live, and died the death I deserved so that my sinful soul may have peace with you. May your name be praised for this glorious truth!
Help me to see that no matter my circumstances, no matter the trial, no matter the darkness I walk through in this broken world, it is well with my soul. May this peace guard my heart against anxious thoughts. Let it drive me to daily worship. May my ransomed life be honoring to you.
Amen
